The private archive of educator, politician, and activist Hasene Ilgaz (3.36 meters of shelving / 2,904 records) is now open access!
As part of the “Digitization, Cataloging, and Online Access Project for Archives and Collections” (February-December 2021), supported by the Consulate General of Sweden in Istanbul, the Hasene Ilgaz Private Archive, located within the Private Archive Collection, has been made accessible through the archival database.

The archive includes articles written for magazines such as Yeni Defne, Türk Çocukları, Eflatun, and Yeni Adam, as well as various articles published in newspapers, books on social issues, texts of speeches delivered at various conferences, seminars, and meetings, and notebooks containing personal thoughts. Additionally, it contains documents related to her tenure as a Member of Parliament from 1943 to 1950 (VII. Term Hatay, VIII. Term Çorum), including parliamentary minutes, draft laws, brochures and activity reports of the Republican People’s Party, and documents, bulletins, and brochures related to the work of institutions such as the Turkish Child Protection Institution, Turkish Language Association, Turkish Women’s Union, Turkish Historical Society, Women’s Protection Association, Darülaceze, and Turkish Economic Institution.
Moreover, the archive includes articles related to her research on Cyprus—many of these writings were published under the title “Cyprus Notes” in Kadın Gazetesi, one of the prominent women’s magazines of the period, between 1947 and 1979. It also contains research on Turkey’s social and political agenda, awards received, identity cards, letters, greeting cards, photographs, telegrams, business cards, booklets, maps, postcards, event invitations, and clippings of news and articles published about her.
